The author's writing demeans and vilifies characters of colour. The story repeatedly references a doctored video of a white police officer shooting black teens, underscoring it was fake. Will not read this author again - too disgusted.

YA story. Strange word usage i.e. stomacher instead of corset.
Ending is to set up next novel. Characters show up when needed to move story along.
Okay read.

The first 3/4s was good. I liked the characters. The last 1/4 can be interchanged with most any other book by this author. The writing went from interesting exposition to almost entirely dialogue to finish the last 100 pages. Contrived ending by adding a last minute character. The first 3/4s was good. While it is a collection of short stories focused on forgiveness, it seems to be the same story. The same language, same tone, and of course the same outcome. I found some of the short stories too incredulous to believe.

Disappointing. The main character, Anna, not likable. Lies or sleeps with people to get her own way. Not much of a story.

This NR book is better than the last one. It has four parts. Part one and three are good. Part two seems rushed as the author doesn't really develop the female character as she does the male, which is a shame. The character of Darby is a bit forced in to the story, when she is introduced. The last section, could be from anyone of NR's books. Even the dialogue has been recycled, which is too bad as part one was quite good. Overall decent read. This NR book is better than the last one. Disappointing. Little character development and almost no plot. Normally, this author is a good easy read - not this time.

Normally, I enjoy Louise Penny books; but, this one was too drawn out and repetitive. Took too long for the story to unfold and resolve. There were many flashbacks, and many of them started at the same point and unfolded a little bit more. I can see how the author was trying to unfold flashbacks as part of the healing process for Gamache's character, but again, took way to long and far to many repeats. Also, kept going over the same Canadian history again and again. I would skip this one in the series. It doesn't really add anything.Normally, I enjoy Louise Penny books; but, this one was too drawn out and repetitive. Took too long for the story to unfold and resolve. This series has seen better days. The current book ends abruptly and leaves the reader with half-a-story. The story that is told is repetitive and could have been told in about 100 pages.

Not bad - much better than her other recent books. It could have been shorter. The mid-to-last third dragged. It was more an exploration of the two main characters that began when both were young. How events shaped who they each became. Much more of the male perspective, which I liked. Overall not a bad read if you are looking for forgettable beach fluff. Not bad - much better than her other recent books. It could have been shorter. The mid-to-last third dragged. Oversized type and double spaced to fill it out to typical novel length. Not much that is new if you watch RHOBH - superficial drivel.

Well written but a GRAPHIC RAPE SCENE, and the consequences of the rape are explored in the second half of the book. For anyone with potential triggers, I would suggest being careful when you read this book.

This book is disappointing. The main character, Bodine, is one-dimensional. Even though she runs a successful western resort, her character has limited and stilted vocabulary. The character of Alice was interesting, but once again the vocabulary became repetitive. The rest of the characters were forgettable. I find the author is re-using scenes from previous work. Not bad, but the story is predictable. There is no surprise in the ending. It seems, if you've read several of her books, the dialogue seems to be the same. I really wanted to like this book, but found the characters to be shallow and boring. Plot was a bit far-fetched, with the characters being stereotypical cliches of good vs. bad. Random trips thrown in, with all of a sudden family connections to move the plot forward led to a mediocre storyline.I really wanted to like this book, but found the characters to be shallow and boring.
