Ángel Has Fallen. 2019
The third in the ‘has fallen’ series of RomComs for Men. Secret Service senior agent Mike Banning turns traitorous suddenly, after decades of loyal service. Working alone, he masterminds and executes a complex, multimillion dollar drone attack on the president, and ends up killing 25 of his own team, but leaves himself and the president alive. He also foolishly leaves behind a trove of easily traceable DNA in the attack van. The FBI also immediately discovers a multi million dollar transfer from KGB directly into the Bannings’ joint checking account. Having failed miserably to complete his objective, because he was so high on prescription pills, he immediately breaks out of federal custody to finish the job. He and his elderly father murder 217 heavily armed elite soldiers with breezy style, while meaningfully reconnecting with each other and overcoming his opiate addiction, as well as convincing the president of his innocence. Finally, after 121 minutes of numbly redemptive American gun violence, Banning returns home and takes a bath with his dad. This film was aimed squarely at a growing demographic of very low intelligence/high aggression/heavily armed person (some of whom may live in our community), and it made 146 million dollars at the box office. Horrifying, but labeled action/adventure. 1/10
It seems like an action-packed and thrilling entertaining piece, but it appears unrealistic and you definitely need a willing suspension of disbelief.
Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman. Need I say more? Fast-paced, lots of drama & action. Totally enjoyable!
Sad. Three points:
While an aging tough guy was actually part of this plot, Hollywood really needs to stop casting seniors as action heroes. Maybe they’re acknowledging the idea is played out. I was surprised to learn Gerard Butler was only 50 when filmed, making him one of the kids at the hero table, but he’s cleaning up scraps because the poor guy didn’t even get into the movie game until he was about 30. I laughed at Nick Nolte being crusty and age-appropriate, still acting while a reanimated corpse; IMDB claims he’s still alive. From Angelina Jolie to Liam Neeson, if we need mature action heroes this badly we should stop creating action hero roles. Alicia Vikander was already 30 when she got in shape for Tomb Raider, but predictably, TRII is on deck.
I think more rounds were fired in this movie than any other real-world fiction I’ve watched. D-Day was more economical. Many Bothans died to bring us this action.
Extras set the pace with one-liner action descriptions and swearing, in case you’re too stoopid to understand what’s thrown in your face. At one point I’m sure they blew up the same helicopter twice, but I was too bored to confirm. Video game violence wasn’t necessary for me, along with other tired clichés like infinite gear changes, bottomless ammo magazines, and hand grenades made from a pound of Semtex and a gallon of kerosene.
So, the library price is right but don’t expect an evening of entertainment. I’m really starting to distance myself from this genre, a charitable categorization.
Another good movie by Gerard Butler
Plot is not the greatest but an action thriller
7 out of ten
Great action adventure film! It is totally action adventure. So, if that's what you came for, you won't be disappointed.
We loved this movie, very entertaining. Enjoyed the different actors that played their roles well.
The third in the ". . .Has Fallen" trilogy," which some have called "a trilogy for people who like three movies." In "Olympus," they took down the White House, in "London," they took down, well, London, and in this one, they storm heaven! Oh wait, they just frame Gerard "G-Butt" Butler. I mean, how many times can you try to kill a president? I will say it's slightly better than the slightly xenophobic "London Has Fallen." If you're quarantined and need dumb action, it delivers. Morgan "Paycheck" Freeman returns as the president, Danny Huston, Jada Pinkett Smith, Tim Blake Nelson, and Radha Mitchell co-star. A special shout out for Nick Nolte, who I'm not sure is acting.
Liked this better than London Has Fallen. An ok action movie with decent set pieces. Not a must watch movie.
Bad plot. Unbelievable expectations that a hero that rescued the world 2x would turn bad and fail at it. But, if you want to watch something with guns and explosions, grab the popcorn and strap in. 'Murica.
It's not bad but the same theme as the others - lots of explosions and shooting and often pretty implausible. It's entertaining as long as you don't expect a lot from it.
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.
The plot is totally non-credible. However incompetent one may believe US intelligence and "justice" agencies are, every single one would have to be an absolute stupid idiot to think that DNA showing up in the vehicleused in the assination attempt is credible evidence. There are 100s of films in which bad guys know to torch the van. But we expected to believe our hero is too stupid to do that? Really?
At best this is yet another Fugitive remake with modern special effects and much more murder & mayhem,
DO NOT WASTE YOUR TIME.
With all of Gerard Butler's Fallen movies get earplugs with all of the constant explosions. Morgan Freeman plays a president worth protecting with Nick Nolte thrown in for good measure. Nolte isn't even playing a character. I thought he just played himself. Get ready for violence, greed, and payback which are basically what high explosion movies are.
A return to form after the indifferent sequel, London Has Fallen. The aging and battered Secret Service Agent Mike Bannon is set up as a scapegoat for an attempted assassination of the President. While clearing his name, he must thwart a second attempt on the President and keep America from going to war with Russia.
Watched this movie twice and loved it even more the second time. Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman never disappoint and I was so happy to see Piper Perabo as a family woman. Nick Nolte is really great as well. Scenery throughout is fantastic.I will probably watch it a couple more times. ***** for sure.
This is a 9 for sure! Lots of action, good acting, fast-moving throughout! We loved the Nick Nolte role! No boredom here. A big thumbs up!
Third installment of the heroics of Secret Service agent Mike Banning (Gerard Butler,) and Allan Trumbull (Morgan Freeman) is now the US President. As its predecessors, high intensity action sequences that are accomplished with incredulous jump scenes. Special effects are better but not top tier for war films. There are twists but too easy to spot them.
★★½ Olympus Has Fallen 2013 -- Gerard Butler as Secret Service agent Mike
Banning and Morgan Freeman as Speaker of the House Allan Trumbull.
★★½ London Has Fallen 2016 -- Gerard Butler as Secret Service Agent Mike Banning and Morgan Freeman as Vice President Allan Trumbull.

Action packed. Highly entertaining. The drone attack scene was well-crafted.
WHITE HOUSE DOWN + THE FUGITIVE = ZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ
or YES, VIRGINIA, THERE IS 2 MORE OF THESE YOU HAVE SAT THROUGH...
Sure Butler's got some action cred, but enough's enough. Remember, the first Angel film in
the series DID come the same time as Tatum & Fox's, so it's more an acknowledgement than
theft... Go back to 300, REIGN OF FIRE for his supporting work, and the smattering of his
trying to bolster also-rans in action films.
