Summary
Add a SummaryThe book is about a mother who sneaks into her sleeping son's room, from childhood to adulthood, at night, picks him up in her arms, and then sings a lullaby to him. Once the mother becomes elderly and unable to sing the son the lullaby, the son then goes and picks the mother up, cradles her in his arms, and then sings the lullaby to the mother. The mother passes away and the son has a daughter and he goes into his daughter's room, picks her up in his arms, and then sings the lullaby to his daughter.
Quotes
Add a Quote"There was a mother who had a new baby, and she picked it up and rocked it, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, and she sang 'I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my baby you'll be'. The son walked over to the mommy, he picked her up and rocked her, back and forth, back and forth, back and forth, and he sang, "'I'll love you forever, I'll like you for always, as long as I'm living my mommy you'll be'.

'Love You Forever' by Robert Munch is a popular children's book about love, and the circle of life and death. A mother's love for her son continues as he goes through the stages of life. Every night his mother sings her song to him while rocking him. My parents read this book to me multiple times when I was a little kid. Then, I read it myself because I love so many of Robert Munch's books. It is a book that is easy to read, especially for kids that’s are just learning how to read because of the repetition of the Mother's song. Love You Forever is a great for all ages. I absolutely love this book and give it a 5/5 star rating. @GymGirl of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
This touching book by Robert Munsch is one of my favourites, to this day. It is so heart-warming, and beautiful for so many people. My mom would read it to me when I was little, and not once did she get through it without tearing up. It is beautifully written, and the story line is very sweet. Munsch did a wonderful job or expressing a mother’s love through words, and making his readers feel the impact. Although it is a children’s book, I think that most audiences will appreciate the sentimentality that this book creates. I would highly recommend this book, especially to those with young children! @PeneleopeScriptor of the Teen Review Board at the Hamilton Public Library
This is my favourite Robert Munsch book of all time. I used to read it to my children, trying my best to get through it without breaking down. Beautifully written, it resonates with all, the unconditional love we hold for those closest to us, no matter what age we are. I still have the book and will be reading it to my grandchildren.
All the feels!
Despite laudable sentiment, but I've always found the part where the mother crawls across the floor instead of tiptoeing to peer at her child slightly creepy in the same sort of way that Justin Bieber YouTube parody song "If I was your girlfriend" is creepy.
This was my favorite book as a child and now my kids love it too!! I definitely recommend it!
A heartwarming look at a mother's love for her son and his love for her as it comes full circle.
A touching story about mother's love. It's always hard for me to read it to children at the daycare I work in, with no tears in my eyes. When I read it to my little daughter I hold her and swing her as it is in the story and sing the song. She loves it. I believe and I hope she is going to remember those special moments and she will do the same with her children one day. Thank you Robert Munsch for writing this beautiful story.
Loved it!
