Mike Banning: [evading an assault in a hidden tunnel] Why did I think coming here was a good idea? I knew you had time to kill, but Jesus!
Clay Banning: Just keep low, and don't bitch.

Ángel Has Fallen. 2019
The third in the ‘has fallen’ series of RomComs for Men. Secret Service senior agent Mike Banning turns traitorous suddenly, after decades of loyal service. Working alone, he masterminds and executes a complex, multimillion dollar drone attack on the president, and ends up killing 25 of his own team, but leaves himself and the president alive. He also foolishly leaves behind a trove of easily traceable DNA in the attack van. The FBI also immediately discovers a multi million dollar transfer from KGB directly into the Bannings’ joint checking account. Having failed miserably to complete his objective, because he was so high on prescription pills, he immediately breaks out of federal custody to finish the job. He and his elderly father murder 217 heavily armed elite soldiers with breezy style, while meaningfully reconnecting with each other and overcoming his opiate addiction, as well as convincing the president of his innocence. Finally, after 121 minutes of numbly redemptive American gun violence, Banning returns home and takes a bath with his dad. This film was aimed squarely at a growing demographic of very low intelligence/high aggression/heavily armed person (some of whom may live in our community), and it made 146 million dollars at the box office. Horrifying, but labeled action/adventure. 1/10
It seems like an action-packed and thrilling entertaining piece, but it appears unrealistic and you definitely need a willing suspension of disbelief.
Gerard Butler and Morgan Freeman. Need I say more? Fast-paced, lots of drama & action. Totally enjoyable!
Sad. Three points:
1
While an aging tough guy was actually part of this plot, Hollywood really needs to stop casting seniors as action heroes. Maybe they’re acknowledging the idea is played out. I was surprised to learn Gerard Butler was only 50 when filmed, making him one of the kids at the hero table, but he’s cleaning up scraps because the poor guy didn’t even get into the movie game until he was about 30. I laughed at Nick Nolte being crusty and age-appropriate, still acting while a reanimated corpse; IMDB claims he’s still alive. From Angelina Jolie to Liam Neeson, if we need mature action heroes this badly we should stop creating action hero roles. Alicia Vikander was already 30 when she got in shape for Tomb Raider, but predictably, TRII is on deck.

I think more rounds were fired in this movie than any other real-world fiction I’ve watched. D-Day was more economical. Many Bothans died to bring us this action.

Extras set the pace with one-liner action descriptions and swearing, in case you’re too stoopid to understand what’s thrown in your face. At one point I’m sure they blew up the same helicopter twice, but I was too bored to confirm. Video game violence wasn’t necessary for me, along with other tired clichés like infinite gear changes, bottomless ammo magazines, and hand grenades made from a pound of Semtex and a gallon of kerosene.
So, the library price is right but don’t expect an evening of entertainment. I’m really starting to distance myself from this genre, a charitable categorization.
Another good movie by Gerard Butler
Plot is not the greatest but an action thriller
7 out of ten
Great action adventure film! It is totally action adventure. So, if that's what you came for, you won't be disappointed.
Good job creating a sequel with a new storyline.
We loved this movie, very entertaining. Enjoyed the different actors that played their roles well.
Entertaining action movies. predictable plot. Good to watch, not boring.
