I just loved this true story about the Author, Mitch Albom, falling in love with and adopting Chika, a little girl in an orphanage in Haiti. I especially loved listening to the audio book where the book was read by the author and he recorded Chika's voice. It's a very heart warming story. I highly recommend reading or listening to it.

If you enjoyed "Tuesdays with Morrie" by Mitch Albom, you will surely enjoy "Finding Chika" by the same author. This story will having you reaching for the box of tissues as it is heartwarming and heartbreaking at the same time. The setting moves between the USA and Haiti after the devastating earthquake that decimated the island in 2010.
My favourite book by this author is "Tuesdays with Morrie" but "Finding Chika" is definitely a close second. I'll leave you with one more of Mitch's quotes that describes the story in a nutshell; "I realized families are like pieces of art: They can be made from many materials. Sometimes they are from birth, sometimes they are melded together, sometimes they are forcibly constructed, and sometimes they are merely the confluence of time and circumstance, mixed together like eggs being scrambled in a kitchen. But they are real. Chika was a daughter to a number of people. And for the last two years, she was ours, graciously ours.... We did not lose a child we were given one.

The audiobook is worth it! There, Albom narrates his story in such an evocative way. The other bonus in the audio form are the short pre-recorded clips of Albom and Chika interacting; these really bring this wonderful little child and the relationship between these two to an even more poignant level.

Albom's narrative provides a valuable insight into this journey with a child with a terminal condition.

This is such a heartwarming book! I already loved Tuesday's with Morrie when I read it years ago and now I am in love with the writing of the author!

Chika was born during the Haiti earthquake and lived in a orphanage which is held by Mr. Mitch. She was brought to US to cure her sickness, “Nevertheless” she completes this family.

Readers familiar with Mitch Albom, especially those who have read "For One More Day" or "The Five People You Meet in Heaven" will be prepared for his particular brand of magical realism. If that puts you off, it's unfortunate, because in all other respects this is a very fine book, one of his best. This is of course a deeply emotional story — I defy anyone to read it with a dry eye to the end — but it's also tremendously insightful, as expressed by Albom in six "lessons":
I am your protection
Time changes
A source of wonder
Kid tough
When children are yours and not yours
When a marriage becomes a family
What we carry
... the last perhaps being the most profound lesson of all;
"What we carry defines who we are. And the effort we make is our legacy."
