That does not, however, make Augie any less unique, as his fun-loving personality still manages to shine through while he shares painfully horrifying experiences. That is also not to say that his tale is not incredibly important, but rather to highlight how disgustingly common, many of Augie Merasty experiences were for so many vulnerable children. Merasty knew his was a story that needed telling, so he bravely seeks out assistance in writing this piece that may leave readers feeling broken-hearted and uncomfortable, but hopefully also driven to become allies and change-makers.
